FPMFEM410 - Evaluate effects of environmental management on feedlot production

This unit is designed to equip leaners with the skills and knowledge required to evaluate the effects of environment on feedlot production. 

Whilst there are no mandatory entry requirements for this unit, it applies to personnel interested or involved in the feedlot industry. This unit may be studied individually or as part of the overall 10148NAT - Certificate IV in Feedlot Production (Feeding Management) qualification. The detail below sets out the key components studied within this unit.


  • Manure production

  • Manure loading, pen environment and feedlot production

  • Dags

  • Pen maintenance

  • Heat stress

  • Heat balance

  • Cattle characteristics and behaviour

  • Physiology of heat stress

  • Excessive heat load management, weather components of excessive heat load

  • Heat load index and accumulated heat load

  • Observations and record assessment

  • Mitigation

Study will involve a range of reading, calculations and written response. This course includes practical assessment elements.You are required to have literacy levels equivalent to a successful completion of Year 10 English and Mathematics. 


Resources Required 

It is recommended that you have access to a reliable internet connection to access seventyWest online systems and a computer with up to date software, including Microsoft office. You will also require a valid and appropriate email address and personal stationery (pen and paper).

Anticipated Unit Cost

Price: $390.00 (GST inc) per person.

Course Duration

This unit is delivered in both self-paced online study or blended delivery mode (which comprises of online study and workshop format).

The duration of the training is 140 hours (typically 2 to 3 months).

Custom group training is available with delivery details negotiated with each employer.

Course Award

On successful completion, students will be awarded a:

  • Statement of Attainment in FPMFEM410 Evaluate effects of environmental management on feedlot production, if completing as a single unit only, OR

  • 10148NAT - Certificate IV in Feedlot Production (Feeding Management), if completed as part of the full qualification
